Interpreting Services are given at 7/24 basis within the Ministry of Health, Health Tourism Department for Arabic, English, German and Russian languages by the services of 112 in emergency cases and 184 in cases of complaints. All physicians are obliged to have occupational health insurance and in case of any medical error or malpractice, compensation is paid to the patient immediately. All of our hospitals serve according to the national accreditation criteria and they are audited twice a year. All transactions and coordination related to health tourism are within the responsibility area of the Ministry of Health. All of 82 million people living in Turkey have compulsory health insurance, and they can receive health care from both private, public and university hospitals.
Turkey has very well-trained and educated work force in the health sector. There is no problem in communication with doctors and health workers who speak foreign languages. Health tourists can easily get answers to any questions in their minds. In addition, both physicians and nurses provide a good mood for the health tourists before and after their surgeries.
Demand for the thermal tourism is higher in the Northern Europe and Scandinavian countries, where rheumatic diseases are particularly prevalent due to climate disadvantages. Our country, which has relative advantages in terms of climate, price, security and transportation, has an outstanding advantage in terms of medical tourism, spa&wellness and spa tourism, older age and sports tourism and has qualities to appeal to every segment of the society. In addition, Turkey has become an important health and thermal tourism destination among the Middle East countries when geographical proximity, its nature and climatic conditions and cultural similarity factors are considered.
There have been significant increases in travels from these regions with the recent visa exemptions, convenience provided at the borders and other political and cultural relations with the Middle East countries. Due to the high cost of health care in developed countries, the people tend to get health care services from lower-cost countries. The fact that some insurance companies in Germany and Netherlands, following Sweden, Norway and Denmark, have decided to cover the costs of services of the patients to be sent to Turkey is an important factor in being preferable in terms of thermal tourism.
Health tourism will increase in the future in our country as the people care more about their health, the health services become competitive and the costs of services remain as the main factor.
